Au-Delà des Pistes is delighted to announce the accreditation of three new structures: Ecuries du Mont Verdun, Haras des Passions and Ecurie de Reconversion Mathieu Bodier, who are pleased to welcome into the approved network of French-based aftercare organisations.

Ecuries du Mont Verdun
Emmanuel and Susie Zanchi spent many years working abroad breaking and pre-training young horses, before setting up in France in 2000.  Based on a site of 10 hectares near Gournay-en-Braye, they are situated an hour-and-a-half from Chantilly and an-hour-and-three-quarters from Deauville.  Former racehorses are taken on hacks, then in-hand, and systematically turned out.  Their facilities include ten stables, and large paddocks where horses are turned out in groups, which has so far permitted them to retrain over 300 Thoroughbreds into a variety of equestrian disciplines.

Haras des Passions
With 27 years of experience in classical riding, and further ten years in the breeding sector, Mylène Peltier, takes in former racehorses that she retrains almost exclusively for eventing, thanks to a close collaboration with Romane Yacovleff.  Mylène doesn’t buy horses but instead charges for their retraining with the owners receiving the benefits of the future re-sale.  Her farm includes large paddocks where horses are turned out in groups, a new barn with ten spacious boxes and other specialist retraining facilities.

Ecurie de Reconversion Mathieu Bodier
A show-jumping rider for many years, Mathieu Bodier has a retraining structure in Joué-sur-Erdre, close to the Nort-sur-Erdre training centre.  Working directly with trainers such as Benjamin Legros, he takes in horses capable of being retrained into other disciplines depending on their aptitudes. Using flat-work, small jumps, as well as going on hacks.  His facilities include ten stables, and paddocks for individual or group turn-out and he can take in up to ten horses at a time.

With the twin objectives of promoting and facilitating the retraining of racehorses, the charity Au-Delà des Pistes supports the development of an accredited network of French-based aftercare organisations where welfare is the guiding principle.  It is paramount to ensure a safe transition into a second career and this is done by bringing together racing industry professionals with practitioners of equestrian activities, to maximise the opportunities for former racehorses.

To become part of this network, each aftercare structure must submit a completed accreditation file.  This is made up of a detailed description of the facilities and reference letters.  Following the submission of the file the Au-Delà des Pistes team visits to ensure the standards of facilities and care conform to those laid out in the Equine Welfare Charter.

The directory of the Au-Delà des Pistes accredited aftercare structures is available on the charity’s website: www.audeladespistes.fr
